Das Rössli wurde vermutlich bald nach dem Bau der Brünigstrasse nach 1860 im Dorf Lungern durch den Baumeister Josef von Rotz gebaut (Ming, Hans: Menschen, Namen und Geschichten eines Bergdorfes am Brünig in Obwalden, 2008, S.256f.)
